Making

'Twas a productive week, last week (which is probably why I didn't have time to blog).
I finished making these felt slippers...

made this necklace...

and this bag for my cousin (who will be visiting briefly in mid-February for my sister's wedding).

In answer to your question...

Jeem: Yes, Yoshi does stay still for me to take photos of him...

Sometimes he even poses for me :)

'This is the mouse that Yoshi caught

Actually, I'm not sure if Yoshi did catch it because there was no sign of a scuffle or fight (no tufts of fur, no blood, no wounds), it was just out the back one morning. Well, there was a tiny bit of blood on it's nose.
And I'm not sure if it's even a mouse, cos even though it looks like one to me, it's pretty damned big, so it's probably a rat? Those are my fingers in the bottom left of the photo to give you an idea of the size of it.
I think I'd prefer to find these out the back than little birdies though. I don't feel so bad about these things being dead.
Eerie yellow light the other morning when it was thundering, lightening and raining. I didn't capture it very well in this shot, and it didn't last long.

Felting

I did a felting workshop this weekend, and this is the first actual thing I made out of felt - a ball (maybe a juggling ball, maybe a cat toy...).

I also managed to felt flat pieces for a pair of slippers (need to get some rubber sole material for them and stitch them together), another piece (the very first attempt) will be made into a purse, and finally, today, I made a felt bag that is all one piece (no sewing of pieces together). I think I could get addicted to feltmaking :) Anyone want something made out of felt?

Month of Softies

'Cat', made from what I think looks kinda like vintage style fabric, for loobylu's Month of (Vintage Catwalk) Softies. I made her from a slightly altered mame wanko pattern (for a chihuahua).

She is not sewn very well - the threads of the fabric kept fraying cos she's so small. Maybe I need to use some kind of fixing medium to stop that from happening in the future.

Time waster

Here is a good site for wasting some time. I found this and this particularly amusing.

Shoebox of love

Heard about this on the radio at the gym this morning.
If you have some time/money maybe put one together ?

Baby bird...

Also last week, I found this baby bird out the back. It's the third baby bird I've found out there. I think they must've falled from a nest (either in the tree above, or the gutter). Of the other two, one was dead, and the other was much like this one - didn't appear to be injured and was opening it's mouth for food and chirping. The other bird's eyes were not open yet though. This one's were. Last time I called my parents to come collect it, cos I was on my way to work and didn't know what to do with the poor thing. It lived for a couple of days with my Mum feeding it (human) baby food. I was doubtful this one would live much longer, so I put it on some fabric on top of a box outside that Yoshi couldn't get to.
Surprisingly, the bird was alive when I got home! It must've blown off the box I'd put it on, cos it was on the ground near the back door. I didn't see it until it chirped at me. Yoshi was around but didn't seem to have bothered it at all. It had a bit of blood on it's wing, but wasn't injured (maybe a broken foot though - looked a bit floppy). It opened it's mouth for food so I gave it some yoghurt (the only sloppy food I had).
The I took it to my parents (I was going there anyway, and they could look after it the next working day). I think mum loves to care for little things. I know that she's always wanted a duckling from very young so it could follow her around and think she's it's mum.
It would have been nice if it's feathers grew and it lived and flew away one day, but it expired after a couple of days :(

The Stinky cat story

Stinky cat...

Around Christmas time this cat I've named 'stinky cat' popped it's head into the cat flap, and even came in, after Yoshi's food. I yelled at him to leave, and when Yoshi saw him he stared and stared, but wouldn't confront (must be one of those non-confrontational types, like me). One morning last week, Stinky came walking past my front door, very close. He ran off when I opened the door and said 'scat!'. Then he appeared at the back door (when I took the photo through the window).
Yoshi was scared to go out. He sat in the space between the wood door and screen door, looking out.
Stinky cat was staring at both of us, just laying there. He ran away quickly when I opened the door...
When I left for work, Yoshi was on the brush fence, looking into the garden.
The stinky cat was in the garden, staring back at him. He ran when I went close. He doesn't have a collar (and actually could be a she).
And I don't know if it smells, I just like to call it "that stinky cat !"

I think Yoshi is scared of him. Scaredy cat !

A change of template to try to cover the fact that I haven't been posting regularly. So much for that plan for 2005...
But I have cooked fish (salmon) this week, which was pretty tasty. Even if the leftovers got spilt in my bag yesterday so that my clothes smelt a bit of chilli-coconut. I plan to cook some flake fillets this week too.

A couple of other things I thought of for this year:
Try to be a nicer person and give more
Stop swearing under my breath when I get annoyed

Photos from last year

Yoshi has taken to sleeping on my bed now, even though he has a nice comfy cushion all his own.
Here he is stretching out

And hiding in the guest bed

This is the bag I made my Mum for Christmas. I think it turned out really well, but this photo doesn't really show the detail...

And here is the bag I made Tani, on the cushion I made for Chelsea & Chris' not yet kitten

Lastly, the necklace I made myself from the book Paul gave me for Christmas

Happy New Year

First post for the new year.
May I'll try to post more regularly this year...
Other thoughts for things to do this year:

  • Cook more fish. Actually, just cook fish, cos I've never cooked it aside from the canned variety.

  • Try to make more stuff and sell it someplace.

  • Ummm, yeah, that's all I thought of...
